Last week I hear that the very famous actor and comedian Jerry Lewis passed away. I remember him in my childhood times when my mother used to watch his movies on TV in the 1980's. In that times the Globo channel used to broadcast a lot of Jerry Lewis's movies on the Afternoon Session.

I barely can remember his movies, because in that times, as a child my interests used to be others, and even after I had grown up I didn’t search for his movies because comedy movie is not one of my favorites genres. But when I watch some of the Jerry Lewis’ movies’ scenes I see that he was really a real comedian.
Suddenly in the middle of the 1990’s I realized that people stopped talking about Jerry Lewis and it was the Jim Carrey’s turn to be in the spotlight. When it comes to talking about comedy films, his name used to be the first to be mentioned, mainly after the success of “The Mask”. And I didn’t understand very much the motive of people have forgotten Jerry Lewis, at least I got this feeling. But I’ve never tried to understand in a deep way what really happened.
I’m not trying to compare this two great actors, it’s far to be my objective in this post. First, because I think it is unfair, each one has his own style and quality, and second because I don’t have a good knowledge about this subject for giving a deep opinion. I ended up having more contact with the Jim Carrey’s movies, it’s natural because he was more in the spotlight in my generation than Jerry Lewis was. And as a comic book fan, it's remarkable for me Carrey playing the Riddler in Batman Forever (until today he is the only actor who played this role after Frank Gorshin and John Astin) and The Mask ( I knew this character thanks to the movie, but I'm still interested in knowing the original The Mask from the comic books).

Here in Brazil, there are many popular comedian actors that I could quote, but I'm going to talk about the group of comedians who I used to watch their TV show during my childhood and teenage years. They are called "Os Trapalhões" (in Portuguese ), kind of "The Bunglers", I don't know if there is a better translation to English. The Bunglers were formed by 4 characters: Didi, Dedé, Mussum and Zacarias. I used to like this TV show more during the 80's, but as time went by, the style of humor had been changing and becoming less funny. And when I watch something of this TV show nowadays, even the best phase is not so funny to me. But I keep good memories of the time when I used to like it.

But in my opinion, one comedian that I’m really a fan is a Mexican called Roberto Gomes Bolanos, who was known as Chespirito. Unfortunately, he passed away a little recently, in 2014. His mainly TV shows are “Chavo of the eight” and “The Chapulin Colorado”, although produced in the 1970’s, they are very popular here in Brazil since 1980’s until the current days. I really laugh with his TV shows, even I’ve watched the same episode a lot of times, I can still laugh at the same jokes.

So, independent of my taste for comedy, I can say that those classics like Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey, The Bunglers and Chespirito can be considered genuine comedy. But nowaday we have a crisis when it comes to humor, mainly here in Brazil. The new generation of comedians has a kind of humor completely unfunny. The majority of the new Brazilian comedians works for a political agenda, and as a reward, they are paid by the government through a kind of law for incentive to the culture. A law that apparently was made for supporting artists in the beginning of their career serves for the leftist government control them. So there is not a criticism against the system, there is the defense of the system against the people. Consequently, the new generation of comedians is completely sold for the system, and they are becoming arrogant and aggressive in order to protect those who pay them. They don’t need anymore to worry about quality, just being obedient to the agenda is the guarantee for a huge amount of money taken out from public money being deposited in their account. Now, there are no more comedians, there are only political activists.
